Fat Boy’s Roadside Eats, By: Stephen McAllister
Marla Sundean and Tyler Kurtz, grandmother and grandson, opened Fat Boy’s Roadside Eats on Standifer Gap Road on July 9, 2015.
During these three brief years, the uniquely decorated restaurant has won best food truck in the respected Tennessee Valley’s People’s Choice Awards for both 2017 and 2018.
The award-winning establishment’s extraordinary menu offers peculiar dishes, ranging from Cheese Stuffed Doritos to Mac & Cheese Pizza Sandwiches to even Apple Pie Egg Rolls.
You order and pay for your food at the window of the truck, and the welcoming staff speedily brings your food to the neighboring, charming dining area.
The satisfying diner is open Monday through Friday from 11 in the morning to 8 in the evening and on Sundays from noon to 8.
If you live on campus and do not feel like making the 20-minute drive to 8106 Standifer Gap Road, Fat Boy’s collaborates with most restaurant delivery services, including Uber Eats, Grubhub, Dinner Delivered, and Seamless.
When asked why he decided to pursue in a career in the restaurant business, co-owner Tyler Kurtz answered, “It’s just been part of my whole life. I love being in a kitchen.”
Co-owners Kurtz’s and Sundean’s appetites and passions for the trade are demonstrated in the unforgettable meals and experiences found at Fat Boy’s Roadside Eats.
