Sluggos Vegetarian Cafe, By: Francesca Pardo
Sluggos is a two story restaurant and music venue located on a strip off Cherokee Blvd in the North Shore area of Chattanooga. Up top Sluggos is a cozy vegan café with a variety of dishes for both the new vegan and the old. The restaurant offers a relaxed space to grab dinner and a beer with some friends. The perfect spot to chat with pals or bring your laptop and have a snack and work. The café offers free wifi making the space an adaptable work friendly environment as well.
On the bottom is a bar and music venue. Sluggos often hosts local bands in this space such as The Band Dare. Annie Haun the singer of The Band Dare told me a little a bit about why she loves Sluggos and why her and the rest of The Band Dare perform there frequently.
“We like playing at Sluggos because they always pay the bands that play, give the bands deals on beer and also the owners are some of the greatest down to earth people in Chattanooga," Haun said. "Sluggos is so sick because they give local bands ample opportunity to play shows. The owners also reach out asking us to play open shows. Sluggos is rad because they allow all ages giving younger kids the opportunity to see live bands. They also show case local art in their restaurant and have a community board by the Register where artists, bands, and other creatives can hang up posters and advertise their events” Haun said.
In addition to their great support for the community they of course have their customers hooked with the great selection and variety of foods they offer.
I spoke with a frequent customer Gabrielle Lasater about her experience at Sluggos. “ I love all their food but the Pesto and Portabello Quesadilla is hands down my favorite dish on the menu, but I love to try them all, Lasater said. "Sluggos is such a personal space I come not just for the good food but for the good environment” Lasater said.
